Giants Sweep A 3-game Series Against Colorado

The San Francisco Giants have tied for the Wild Card lead...for now. Thanks to a series sweep against the Colorado Rockies. In the first game Tim Lincecum pitched and pitched a gem not allowing a run and the Giants went on to win 2-0. In the 2nd game of the series Barry Zito had to pitch a good and solid game for the Giants to have a chance to win and he did. He only allowed 1 run through 8 innings and the Giants got some run support for him as well and went on to win 5-3. In the final game Matt Cain was on the mound. He didn't have a stellar performance, but it turned to be enough. He gave up 5 runs through 6 innings and the Giants were down 5-2 in the 7th with the bases loaded when Edgar Renteria who came into the game with only 3 home runs hit a GRAND SLAM to take the lead 6-5. And then in the 8th inning they really shut the door on Colorado scoring 3 runs and winning the game 9-5 along with the series sweep.

Giants Lose 3 out of 4 Against Colorado

The Giants have now really lowered their chance in getting to the playoffs by losing 3 out of 4 of the games played in Colorado against the Rockies, the NL Wild Card leader. Going into the game, the Giants were only 2 games behind the Rockies. They won the first game 10-6 and cut the lead to 1 game, but due to mistakes and lack of run support they could not win the next 3 games. After a 3-games series against the Arizona Diamondbacks they play another series against Colorado, this time in San Francisco. While it looks like there is little chance of making a playoff run, the Dodgers are struggling and are only leading by 3 games over Colorado, but still 7 over the Giants.

49ers Win The Battle of the Bay 21-20

Yet Another Game Won by a Missed 2-point Conversion by the other Team.

Lets Look at some key points of this win

Glenn Coffee ran for 100+ Yards

5 Forced Turnovers ( 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles)

Nate Davis Doing Well

Defense is coming around

But The Bad Part is that the quarterback competition isnt coming along that well and Crabtree isn't one step closer to signing than a few days ago. Time is running out with only 2 unsigned 1st drafts

Brett Favre is Back...Again (sigh)

We all thought Brett Favre (or Farve?) was officially retired around 2 weeks ago when he announced he would stay retired rather than play for the Vikings. Of course, you can't listen to him, last year he said the same thing and ended up playing for the Jets. Well, yesterday, it happened again. Favre officially signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Even though they have 2 quarterbacks competing for the starting job with Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson (last year's starter), they still decided to bring in Favre. Now that they have 4 quarterbacks in total, one has to be cut or traded before the regular season starts. Reports say that the Vikings really like 3rd string QB John David Booty and they also like Rosenfels. That leaves Tarvaris Jackson, arguably their best QB before Favre came to probably being cut. Now are the Vikings doing something wrong or are they making their chances for a playoff run bigger???

Giants Split 4 Game-series with the Mets

After yesterday's 10-1 win for the Giants, they split the 4-game series with the New York Mets. In the first game of the series, the Giants got shut out by the Mets 3-0, even though pitcher Barry Zito only allowed 3 runs in his start. In the second game of the series, the Giants had an early lead, but gave it up late and allowed the Mets to tie the game and force it into extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, Bengie Molina was up to bat and hit a home-run that gave them a one run lead and proved to be the game-winning hit. During the 3rd game of the 4-game series, the Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez had another quality start allowing 2 runs and Randy Winn tied the game for the Giants late, but in the 9th inning their bullpen gave it up. In the bottom of the 9th, Mets' Daniel Murphy hit a walk-off base hit off of one of the best Giants relievers, Jeremy Affeldt. In the last game of the series in New York, the Giants blew out the Mets 10-1 and split the series with the Mets. Starter Joe Martinez only gave up one run in 5 innings pitched and got his 2nd win as a starter in the MLB, thanks to a much needed Aaron Rowand home run, Nate Schierholtz's double, Edgar Renteria's single, and a bunch of hits off of Livan Hernandez. So now the Giants look to try to win a series in Cincinnati against the Reds.

One of the Most Intense Heisman Races?

You Tell Me.

Is this one of the most intense and competitive Heisman races ever?

Well, lets look at the facts shall we?

  • Three of last years finalists, Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, and Tim Tebow are back
  • If thats not tough enough for any dark horse you also have Eric Barry the safety from Tennesee, Cal's explosive Jahvid the Jet Best a no. 4, and Ole Miss' Jevan Snead as one of the top QB's behind the "Returning 3."

But What Are the odds that the returning 3 QB's.... Won't Win?

There is a chance that they won't win because what if they slip, fall, and drop in ranks?

This Probably will happen to most the teams with a Heisman Candidate, but the team with the least mistakes, their team will receive the heisman.

So Lets Take A Look at My No. 4 shall we?

No.4 Jahvid Best, RB, California Golden Bears:

Jahvid the Jet has a great chance of winning the Heisman, in my opinion a 16.5% chance of winning. But we will see very early in the season if he deserves the heisman with the first two Pac-10 games being at Oregon and home to USC. If he manages to win those games, then he has a much larger chance of getting his team to the top of the country and winning the heisman. People under estimate The Jet's ability because they say, " He's in a weak conference" or, " He has the two Washington's and Stanford," but this is one of the hardest conferences out there with the SEC, Big 12, and the Big 10. Jahvid Best's ability to make big plays and average 8.1 yards per carry is more amazing than any tailback in the nation, including CJ Spiller. Even if he isn't in the greatest confrence who else can make these plays on a game to game basis.

49ers Beat Broncos in Preseason Opener.

In the 49ers first preseason game, they squeaked out a win 17-16, thanks to their defense. Alex Smith and Shaun Hill were still battling for the starting QB spot, but none of them pulled ahead of each other. For the Broncos, it was their quarterback Kyle Orton's preseason debut. The 49ers made his day a rocky and a bad one. Kyle Orton didn't throw one interception, not two, but three interceptions. The first one was by Nate Clements in the end zone for a touchback. The others were by newly signed corner back Dre Bly and 2nd year safety Reggie Smith.
